His family biography states that Michael's life was never easy, and every Simoleon acquired by it was with much hard work and some thefts. Michael is currently employed in the [[Criminal]] career as a Master Thief (level 10) and has 9 skill points in [[Athletic]]. Outside of his home, he is friends with [[Rita Davis-Welles]]. He is engaged in a [[same-sex relationship]] with [[Mark Davis-Welles]], a secret relationship which no one knows, and his family biography implies doubt on whether he would make that relationship come to public attention. Michael is apparently based on [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jay_Gatsby Jay Gatsby], the title character from the 1925 novel ''[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Great_Gatsby The Great Gatsby]'' which similarly features a man who has turned to a life of crime in order to gain the wealth and status he feels he needs in order to win back his lost love. However, in a twist on the original novel, Michael's love interest is revealed to be not Rita Davis-Welles ~~(based on Gatsby's love interest~~, ~~Daisy Buchanan)~~ but her husband Mark (based on Daisy's husband Tom, who in the novel is having an affair with another woman, a reversal of the situation in the game, where instead Rita is in love with another ~~man~~woman). This also makes Michael and Mark's relationship the first officially confirmed male same-sex romance in the series (although the female couple who head the [[Shear family]], also of Roaring Heights, are the first same-sex couple in the series to be officially ~~recognised~~recognized as romantic partners rather than simply love interests in-game, due to the fact that their relationship is not secret or extramarital).
