The plant can only be planted by Sims that have a [[Gardening (The Sims 3)|Gardening]] skill level of 10. Some special plants, such as [[Death Flower]]s cannot be replicated using the Omni Plant.

It may also be found at the Landgraab Industries Science Facility, while fishing, or received as a random reward after going into the past in the [[time machine]].
Once a Sim has received the omni plant for the first time after completing the opportunity, they can order more seeds through the mail.
