However, one disadvantage of using romance socials is that cheating can occur. If the cheating occurs, it can use a Sim to lose 50 relationship points[TS][TSC][TSBO][TU:SITC]. In The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, about 100 points can be lost. In The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval, it can cause you to use lose some relationship when using romance socials. In The Sims 3, the Unflirty trait can decrease the effectiveness of Romance socials.

As The Sims did not sort the socials, players were unsure of what socials were Romantic. The Sims 2 and The Urbz: Sims in the City resolved this problem by categorizing the socials so players know what socials are romantic.

Cheating can be prevented in The Sims 3 if the Sim has the LTR No Jealousy.
