Excessive use by autonomy

In The Sims 2, the community espresso machine had several commonly encountered bugs.

  • After Open for Business and prior to Apartments, the machine would get heavily used by autonomous sims. If a coffee machine existed on the lot, all sims would choose to purchase coffee over any other interaction. The reason for this is that they were wrongly motivated by the new, hidden Shopping motive, possibly intended to make the object moderately attractive for visiting sims to "shop" at. In practice, they used only this object and the restaurant podium, if that existed, creating a monotonous atmosphere and preventing the player from accessing the object.
  • If Seasons are installed, the Barista might hang in an infinite loop when it rained, and she attempted to react to the precipitation. This would make the coffee stand unavailable for use until the barista was deleted or lot reloaded.
  • A playable sim would exit the object if working as a barista if another command was queued either by an event, autonomous sims or the player. The player interaction was incorrectly running at a low priority.
  • Purchasing coffee for another sim was not possible if autonomous, visiting sims were on the lot, as they usually interfered with random activity.
