Line 1:
Why are genies considered life states? They are uncontrollable, and more like objects than sims. 99.0.40.175 13:06, October 27, 2009 (UTC)

:OK, I think we can just leave that as "over time". I haven't encountered the backfires yet, but "yet" is probably the key word there. Dharden (talk) 14:04, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
::On reflection, I think backfires are a game-balance issue. In Livin' Large, Sims can get an effectively unlimited number of wishes (at one per day) for only §375, and can have as many lamps as they can afford. So, the general ineptness of the Genie balances that out. They can have an effectively unlimited number of wishes, if the player is willing to risk having the great bulk of them go wrong. In FreeTime, since the Genie only allows three wishes and the lamp is a reward that is rarely received, the Genie can be much more competent, and wishes can usually work, without affecting game balance too much. :::That makes sense, because getting genie lamp is very rare... and getting backfires must be really upsetting (Though I prefer to keep the lamp if I had one). I think we just need to wish the genie over and over... until we experience something unprecedented.
