::I initially thought Hawaiian too, but I looked it up and it turns out that while as a given name it ''is'' a Hawaiian (predominantly feminine) name, as a surname it seems to borne mainly by people of Indian and Iranian descent: [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kalani_(surname)]. I guess you could argue that the creators probablymight didn'tnot know this and chose it to indicate he was a Pacific Islander, though? Perhaps both should be in the article.
