At a guess, you had fed the Beast recently. When the Beast is fed, it is docile, and you get Woohoo hearts rather than expletive runes and fight animations. Although no origin is explained for the Pit Beast in The Sims Medieval, in The Sims 4 a school project to build a Medieval diorama specifies in its flavor text "Sixam Pit Beast not included".
