::Whereas with Sims like "Brandi LeTourneau", their names aren't pronounced quite how they're spelt. Initially I pronounced "LeTourneau" as "Lay-Tor-Neo", until I decided that since "Beau" is pronounced "Boh" or "Boe" rather than "B'u", then I would start pronouncing "LeTourneau" as "Le-tor-no". Even now I'm not entirely certain whether I'm pronouncing it right, but I'm pretty sure my pronunciation is more accurate than it was initially. ― C.Syde (talk | contribs) 04:56, September 6, 2015 (UTC)

Master games list
I've created a new template, which is currently called MGL1 (short for "Master Games List"). The purpose of this template is to eliminate the need to edit the game color templates (GCTs) every time a new content pack is announced. The MGL will eventually be a list of every Sims game, and will break each game or pack into a set group. For instance, The Sims and The Sims: Hot Date will automatically be grouped together, whereas The Sims and The Sims 3 would not. Once the MGL is complete, the GCTs will be edited, as demonstrated here.

There are a few things that should be resolved first, however. Right now, we have more-or-less coherent groups between our games. I've set MGL to output games as belonging to any one of the groups TS1, TS2, TS3, TS4, Urbz, Social, or Medieval. However, some of our GCTs distinguish further, between base games versus expansions for that game (see Template:Vgcolor for instance). My feeling is that we should simplify the groupings and eliminate color differences between base games and expansions/stuff/game packs for those games; this would also reduce the amount of different groups listed in the MGL.

This change-over will make it much simpler to add new games to the list and to have them output whatever colors we'd like, without having to edit a dozen different game color templates to do it. As well, under this setup we could more easily accommodate fanon, user-created or fictitious games, through a possible "MGL-fanon" template, which would function the same in principle and would only require slight modification of the GCTs.

I've made the first edits on a test basis, and the output can be seen currently on the sandbox. In this test case, I'm utilizing Game/test, which has a different general appearance than Game but functions similarly. Note in the example that the TS1 and TS2 games display the correct colored header and border, whereas the TS3 game does not; this is because the TS3 game is not yet listed in the MGL.

When I have more time, I'll continue the implementation of this system. This will involve editing a few templates but ultimately it should be unnoticeable to the readers and at the same time should ensure that adding new games is significantly easier. -- LostInRiverview talk • blog • contribs 16:56, September 6, 2015 (UTC)
