While users can freely delete anything off their talk page, it's preferable that the conversations there are saved, rather than simply removed. If, for instance, a discussion occurred on a talk page, archiving allows a user to search for that conversation long after it has been concluded. If the conversation is deleted, however, it is much more difficult to find. |
