Hey, great job :). Templates are pretty straightforward to make. For exapmle, for your sig, I'd make one called Template:DeVgard07-sig, or something similar. Then, copy paste the coding for the sig into thetemplate, and publish it. Then type the name of the template, in <nowiki>{{</nowiki>double braces<nowiki>}}</nowiki>, without the template prefix into [[Special:Preferences|your preferences]]. Now, when you sign, the template will automatically be used as your signature.
As for whether you want to use it as your sig, that's up to you. Sigs can only be so long in the signature input box, but as a template they can be huge, and feature lots of coding. More advanced sigs like [[Template:GGsig|this one]] have to be made in templates. Seeing you've managed to put it on my talkpage with no problems, I'd just leave it how it is, for now, at least.
