The template uses the [[mw:Help:Extension:ParserFunctions#.23switch|#switch]] parser function, and the way you edited the template resulted in that gigantic mistake occurring. Like I said earlier, if you want to test or develop a template, it's probably best you create a "test" page for it and develop it there. In this case, you either had to use a "test" page for development, or complete the template all in one go. Please note that you should edit templates like this one very carefully, since one simple mistake can cause a lot of problems.
