Sim's gender preferences start out at 0/0 - in other words, they have no preference. Unlike Real Life, the gender preferences of Sims will slowly shift as they have romantic interactions with others, so a playable Sim's preference is pretty much up to the player. |

Aside from skin tone, you can't really tell what born-in-game Sims will look like while they're babies. If they turn out ugly, there's not much you can do until they become adults and are able to use the plastic surgery station - and that's only there if you have University. If your Sims become a mass of deformed pixels, then your game is probably hosed. |
