Cheats are used for many reasons, story making, glitch fixing, just for fun or to make a tricky situation easier. There are cheats in both the sims 1 and the sims 2.

Sims 1 cheats

There are loads, but right now the only ones I can remember are:

  • Rosebud: Gives 1000 Simoleons. But repeating the expression :; after the word rosebud results in more money (1000 x the number of :; used) by ending the code with a : the cheat will continue indefinitely until the player either closes the cheat box, removes the colon or there is 999,999 simoleans in the bank, at which point the money becomes unlimited.

As a point of interest, the use of 'rosebud' as a cheat probably comes from the famous movie 'Citizen Kane' in which the last word of the dying rich man was 'Rosebud' which was the name of his childhood sled, when he was poor, apparently the last time he was ever happy.

  • moveobjects_on / _off: Allows the player to move any object in the game anywhere. Causes some problems. This cheat can be used to give the sim full motives again, but also has the chance of deleting the skill information of the character.

Base game cheats

  • Kaching: 1,000 Sim simoleans.
  • Motherlode: 50,000 simoleans.
  • familyfunds (family name) +(desired amount): adds number of simoleons typed as desired amount.
  • moveobjects on: Similar to the sims 1 cheat, but cant be used to restore needs. Useful for deleting glitched items, NPCs and creating cool effects.
  • boolprop testingcheatsenabled true: Arguably the most useful and controversial cheat. It deserves a whole page to itself.
  • aging -on/-off: Pretty self explanatory. Sims wont age, with exception to university.
  • intProp maxNumOfVisitingSims (number): Changes maximum allowed number of visiting sims on a lot at any given time. Useful if the game deems your computer slow and you feel like challenging it. Bear in mind there is a reason the number is low, however.
  • boolProp snapObjectsToGrid true/false: objects are not fixed to grid. Useful for decorative purposes, can sometimes lead to strange animations that don't line up with the object in question, but thats about it.
  • boolprop constrainFloorElevation true/false: Allows player to raise the floor even if there are objects or a second floor above the area. This cheat is very useful for building custom lots.
