Practicing painting is the basic interaction for Sims to practice the Painting skill. Researching new fashion concepts and architectural design is beneficial for [[Stylist]] and [[Architectural Designer]] [[profession]]s, respectively. Both interactions will increase the Painting skill and job experience of respective profession. Researching new fashion concepts will also increase Sim's Styling [[secret skill]], provided they work in Stylist profession. Both the profession-based interactions have slightly lower Painting skill gain rate than the basic practice painting, so they're not very optimal if Sims don't work in either profession.
The drafting table looks very similar to the one from ''The Sims 2: FreeTime''. The difference is that the drafting table in ''The Sims 3: Ambitions'' has separate stool, so players have to buy both the stool and the table for Sims to sketch. The drafting table can use any barstool, but there's a matching stool for the drafting table in the barstool section in [[Buy mode]]. Also, because ''The Sims 3'' lacks the ability to draw custom paintings unlike in ''The Sims 2'', Sims cannot do that in the drafting table either, unlike in ''FreeTime''.
