According to its description, the technology behind it is "a puzzle wrapped in an enigma, held together with copious amounts of duct tape and bits of twine", and it certainly looks like a ramshackle contraption that's held together with duct tape and twine. Regardless of what it looks like, it works - though it can only be used five times, as indicated by the five red lights on its bench.
