The Sim using the Energizer pulls a lever on the right-hand side of the device, then steps into an old washtub on the left-hand side and grabs two of the poles that surround the washtub. The mechanism will engage a few seconds after that. The action can be canceled before the Sim steps into the Energizer; it does not lose one of its five uses until the mechanism begins to operate. If the use is successful, the Sim will be surrounded by a bright glow as his or her [[motives]] are boosted. However, failure will drain the Sim's motives, though it will not kill him or her. If many of the Sim's motives are very low, the Energizer will not be able to completely replenish all of them, though all motives will get a substantial boost.
