(Time and Relative Dimension in Space) is a time machine and spacecraft in the British science fiction television programme Doctor Who and its associated spin-offs. A TARDIS is a product of the advanced technology of the Time Lords, an extraterrestrial civilisation to which the programme's central character, the Doctor, belongs. A properly maintained and piloted TARDIS can transport its occupants to any point in time and any place in the universe.

General Information[edit | edit source]

TARDIS Mark II, as seen in The Labyinth of Time
TARDIS Mark III as seen in Enigma of the Dead.

The interior of a TARDIS is much larger than its exterior ("It's bigger on the inside"), which can blend in with its surroundings using the ship's "chameleon circuit". TARDISes also possess a degree of sentience (which has been expressed in a variety of ways ranging from implied machine personality and free will through to the use of a conversant avatar) and provide their users with additional tools and abilities including a telepathically-based universal translation system.

Interior[edit | edit source]

The interior of the Mark I and II TARDIS featured in the Doctor Who: the Sims 3 series is based on the interior of the TARDIS's used by Tom Baker, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy, and like the TV show, the TARDIS uses the original materialization sound. However, the Mark III TARDIS is not based on any TARDIS seen in the normal show. The TARDIS interior has an unknown number of rooms and corridors. Many corridors are featured in the Sims series. Only three rooms other then the main console room are seen in the series, they are the Secondary Control Room ("Part Two" and "Part Three" of The Destruction of the TARDIS and "Catacomb"), the Library ("Catacomb", "Nemesis" and "Siege") and Katarina's bedroom ("Catacomb").

Other TARDISes[edit | edit source]

The Master's TARDIS[edit | edit source]

Only one TARDIS that doesn't belong to the Doctor is featured in the series, and that is

The Master's TARDIS as seen in Enigma of the Dead

Master's TARDIS. It's features are much like the Mark I and II of the Doctor's TARDIS, except that instead of white walls, they are black and the Colum is red instead of green. Unlike the Doctor's, the Master's chameleon circuit is fully functional, and his TARDIS have been seen in various forms, including a grandfather clock, a fridge, a Police Box, a bookshelf and in a deleted scene, a Shower.
