Meeting Nisha[edit | edit source]

For the first time in, I don't know, forever, I went home feeling... HAPPY.

Happy: a completely new sensation in itself for me. And this was all because of Brigit Hemlock. It was undoubtedly true that Brigit was now my friend, but I wanted something more between us. And by the way she looked at me, I knew that she wanted it too. To be honest, we were meant to be.

I walked down the street, still jovial. But out of the corner of my eye, I saw a little glint. I didn't know what it was, and I decided not to check. It was dark, and who knew what could be lurking on the streets in a place like this. There were endless possibilities: it could just be teenagers messing around, or it could be something worse, like gangsters... or vampires.

I pulled the hood of my sweatshirt up over my head, though the bright red material would do little to nothing in terms of camouflage. I turned back, and I saw a pair of bloodred eyes glaring back at me.

No, I thought. It's just my mind, playing tricks on me. That's all. Pull it together, Pierce. That was what I told myself as I passed through the street, picking up the pace to a jog. And when I turned back, there were no eyes. Just a mesh wire fence.

And then, when I turned around, there were those same bloodred eyes, directly in front of me. The crimson came closer and closer, emerging from the shadows. Then the full body appeared. It was just a girl.

"Hi," she said.

"Uh," I said, thinking this was a case of wrong place wrong time. If she wanted too, this girl could have pulled a knife on me. But she didn't. "Hello."

"I'm Nisha," she said, and she outstretched her hand toward me. "Nisha Slayer."

Slayer, I thought. I know that name. "Pierce VanPyre," I said, reluctantly taking her hand. But Nisha didn't seem like a bad person. "Pleasure to make your acquaintance."

"Funny last name," she said. "Sounds like vampire."

"Why?" I inquired. "You believe in that stuff?"

Nisha gave me a sly smile. "Well, let's just say that whether you believe in it or not, it doesn't make a difference when you are something. Do you get what I'm saying?"

"Wait..." I said. "So are you saying that...?"

"Yes, Pierce," said Nisha Slayer. "I am a vampire."
