2[edit | edit source]

You decide to pay a visit to 18 Moonlight Lane.

As you walk along the footpath in the direction of the home of your new neighbours, you begin to smell something…delicious. You wonder what absolutely scrumptious delights are being cooked up in that kitchen.

The front lawn is cleanly cut, and the garden has been freshly trimmed and weeded. It might as well have been sparkling. The house itself has just one floor, and its walls are white, with a low, warm, brown roof.

In a nutshell, 18 Moonlight Lane looks quite friendly.

You walk up the driveway, careful not to tread on the carefully manicured lawn, and then stop at the front door.

You take a deep breath. Here we go.

DING! DONG!

You step back, as if the door was a dangerous explosive of some sort.

It takes only but a few seconds for keys to start jingling from the other side of the door. It swings open, and there is an elderly woman standing at the other side.

"Why, hello there," the woman says. She looks Japanese, and is old. Her accent is strong. "I haven't seen you around before."

"We're new," you say. "We just moved in."

"Well then," the woman says. "Welcome to Tsukitani! You may call me Ayoko-obāsan." She bows. You quickly realise that returning the greeting is most appropriate.

"Ah, where are my manners?" Ayoko-obāsan scolds herself. "Come in, come in! Please take your shoes off before entering."

You hesitate. Should you go inside or not? It might be rude, and you never know what kind of people they are. But your instinct tells you that it's okay. What should you do?
