Still a kind-hearted man, Wendell burned Elenore's house down after he learned of her financial problems so that she could come home without being shamed by her mother. Despite loving her deeply, he is aware that his son-in-law plans to kill Abigail and plans on dying with her when the time comes, asking Jack to tell him before hand.
Jack came to him one day and said it was time. Wendell agreed and realized he was dying. He fell asleep watching Abigail swim and passed on in the lounge chair, moments before she drowned.
