Farming as been a long standing mechanic in the sims series, and was most notably expanded upon in the first ever farming pack, The Sims 4: Cottage Living. In this pack they added the following Farm Animals:

Each of these animals have their own functions and mechanics, but let's focus on some basics. Cows, and Llamas can be purchased in the barn stalls from buy mode, and can each be named. Only one Cow or Llama comes with each stall, but you can place more than one on each lot. You can milk the cows and change the flavor of the milk using different collectibles like Chocoberries to make chocolate milk. Llamas can be used for their wool, which can then be used for craftables like embroideries and more. Llamas are also good for keeping predators away from the farm.

Chickens can be purchased from the Chicken coop in buy mode. You can collect their eggs, name them, and hatch their chicks after you breed a hen and rooster. Beware though, you wouldn't want the local foxes to snatch a feathered friend...

Bunnies can be found in the wild and then befriended. Once you become acquainted with them, they will bring you gifts and help you around the garden. You can even place their house on your lot so they'll stay forever. They are like pets, but they don't take up slots in your household. The same goes with wild birds. They can also be dressed up and given names.

Foxes can be found in the wild and unlike Bunnies and Wild Birds, they are not the nicest. They stalk small animals...

*all the animals listed above can be found in Henford-on-Bagley, a world exclusive to The Sims 4: Cottage Living expansion pack*
