I'm taking the initiative on an idea we've discussed in the past, and I'm planning on making some changes to blogs on the wiki. My goal is to highlight this feature more and expand its productive use. Before that can be accomplished, there need to be new blog categories introduced, and possibly a template that users can place on the blog that will categorize it, and provide a more standardized design. At the very least, I'm planning on introducing new categories, and possibly consolidating some of our existing categories.

I want to undertake these changes relatively soon - within the next week or two. To that end, I'm looking for some input. First, I'm planning on migrating our current blog categories so that they are no longer sub-categories of Category:Blog posts. It seems odd that we would make all these categories as sub-categories of one, and I think it ultimately makes more sense to make each its own main category. This would involve some bot edits but it would not be complicated. My question is if this seems like it would cause any undue frustration on the part of editors. The vast majority of current blog writers are experienced wiki editors (many of them also are admins) so I personally anticipate the impact of this change to be minimal... but if that's not true, please let me know. In addition, please let me know of any categories you think should be created. I have a few ideas in mind, but more would be appreciated.

Yeah I don't think we need the sub-categories either. As for new categories, "Opinion blogs" comes to mind as we get a lot of them. "Help blogs" might also be worth considering as contrary to our Game Guides namespace we do get blogs aimed to help users and such. Lost Labyrinth (c)(b) 22:34, November 10, 2013 (UTC)

I also don't really see the need for sub-categories. New categories, however, I share an agreement with Lost Lab with his ideas of the categories he mentioned. I have also noticed that there has been a growth in blogs created showcasing users discoveries on Sims. I've not really thought of a name as I generally suck at thinking up names, however, this is only just a suggestion. That's all I've got. Beds (parlare - da leggere) 13:20, November 12, 2013 (UTC)
Perhaps subcategories aren't necessary, but I still think that these categories still need to be grouped under one category, namely Category:Blog posts. In the end, I think this is a matter of renaming the existing categories, as well as expanding some more possible categories. If that's the case, I don't see the reason to oppose this. It might be a good idea, but I'm not really fond of it if by any chance, it will make our existing forums become redundant. Hopefully it won't, though.
As a side note, I think it's appropriate that all blogs are subcategories of Category:Blog posts, because wikia automatically generates this category whenever a blog is created. Even if the category is removed, it will automatically get added again. Nikel Talk Vote! 05:53, November 13, 2013 (UTC)

Conclusion[edit source]

The discussion here has ended and the changes have been implemented. Any additional major changes to blogs should be brought up in a new thread. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 02:55, December 18, 2013 (UTC)
