Hello Wikians! As you probably know, the release of The Sims 4 is coming up soon. We don't know exactly when the game will come out, but current information says that it should be out sometime early next year. If that holds true, that means we don't have much time between then and now. There are several things we might need or want to do to prepare the wiki for TS4 and the influx of traffic we're likely to experience.

It is likely that we will experience a sharp increase in activity here in the days and weeks following TS4's eventual release. The difference between these users being temporary visitors, and being long-time members, may ultimately lie in whether or not we are able to embrace these users and make them a part of the community in some way. I feel that the best way to do this, aside from being friendly and welcoming, is to hold events on the wiki (as well as on the Facebook and Twitter pages) to draw these people in and to keep them here.

I'll cut to the chase - Wikia Staff would be useful here, I believe. They have worked with other wikis in the past, and helped boost communities through events, contests, etc. I think we should take the initiative to contact Staff (or a specific member of staff) and start having a conversation about potential events to hold here. I think having Staff involvement would allow us to achieve a more successful event than if we were going at it alone, and might open the door to different kinds of events that we would not be able to otherwise do (e.g. game giveaways).

So, what does everyone think? -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 21:12, October 12, 2013 (UTC)

I think this is a great idea. I remember seeing old contests leading up to TS3's release from way before I joined and they seemed neat and fun. I think a caption contest and things like that (once more pre-release media is available) would be a good thing to do. DanPintalkcontribs21:51, October 12, 2013 (UTC)

I agree with this. Since we are very much close to its release date (unless EA delays it again just like The Sims 3), I think it won't hurt if we're to request help from a couple of Wikia staffs. --Frostwalker Talk to me! 22:22, October 12, 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like a great idea to me. ~ Waikikamukow (Anyone wanna chat?) 04:09, October 13, 2013 (UTC)

Alright, this idea did get some traction. However, it was suggested before the TS4 release date was pushed back and, as such, is maybe just a little too early. I'm going to archive this for now and we can re-address it as we get closer to the date. -- LostInRiverview talk ~ blog 20:55, October 24, 2013 (UTC)
