Hello and thanks for reading this. I am wondering if we should do a podcast about all things The Sims related products. I have an account to a online radio network hosting site which has the abilities to join for free and talk live for free web based call-in program that is easily downloaded to your personal computer. I don't mind sharing the duties as host with the administration team members and willing to work this out with the community=at=large. I would love to hear the feed back from the other users and have a community wide vote whether or not we should have a The Sims podcast. That is my thoughts. Hmmm... that's quite an original idea. However, I'm not sure how practically speaking it could be managed. For starters, I don't think there would be all that much that we could really talk about on the podcast, while simultaneously making it interesting to listen to. Additionally, how would this be promoted - why would any random person choose to listen to this particular podcast?

So as I said, it's a novel concept, but I'd like to see a solution to these problems before I throw any support behind it. -- LostInRiverview ^{talk · blog} 20:41, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

What LiR said. Plus there are some personal and technical aspects that need to be thought about. Would a user from this wiki be comfortable with lending their voice to the podcast? Do they have the time and equipment to do it? Another thing that I'd like to know is: are the podcast "episodes" recorded live or pre-recorded (I'd probably need to AutoTune my accent for everyone to understand :P)?

As for the technical aspects, some users may have data caps depending on their connection type (3G and satellite can have small caps of 1GB p/m or less iirc) and they may live in an area that doesn't get fast internet anyway, meaning they may have issues streaming/uploading to the podcast (though audio isn't that bandwidth intensive on most sites). I know the personal and technical "issues" may be out of anyone's control realistically; I just listed these as this kind of reminded me of the cons listed on another discussion a little bit.

To cover the technical issues, the shows are recorded live via web conferencing call via Talk Shoe, and they can use their cell or landlane phones, or use the free option of the web enabled program to call in, The most time wise is 30 minutes, roughly 10 to 25 megabytes in data. I do agree that the user in question has to think of if s/he has the time and even if s/he would lend there voice. I am suggesting that I have experience at this and that I am willing to take time out of my schedule to do this. All that I request is that the wiki user post on my talk page and suggests topics about The Sims games, ranging from MySims to SimCity to The Sims (1 through 3, with the 4th coming sometime in the future), and everything in between. This includes the fanan pages as well and as well as quick tips on better playing the game of The Sims 2 and or The Sims 3. I also request that some of our users join Talk Shoe, which is completely free to join and cancel at anytime, to type chat during the show (which Wikia wants us to get to know our community and this is a good way to do that). I can also prerecord any shows when and if it is possible. I will be promoting The Sims Wiki as always to boost our visitors, and I take full responsibilities of the outcome of this project. I put little or no responsibilities of failure to this wiki but I will give credit where credit is due with the success. I do not mind serving out a test period of sorts to get the word out about this site and affiliates (the other sims wiki languages sites) to be up in standings. I doubt anyone would even listen tbh. There isn't really that much to talk about regarding the wiki, other than the general "hurr durr don't vandalise comment in this discussion follow policy" stuff. I'm not really that keen on this idea myself. ―ฬђ ^talk 23:32, April 17, 2012 (UTC)

Technical issues aside, and even placing the issue of whether there would be a large audience aside, there's one issue/point that no one has covered too well. Someone mentioned the time issue, and from knowing someone who used to maintain a podcast for a year, I know it was very difficult for him to maintain a bi-monthly and later monthly release schedule. Ultimately, I think he got burnt out.

Would you be willing to do the incredible effort to gather information, pick out the most relevant bits, and on top of it all, make it interesting? Are you willing to keep this level of effort up for weeks, months, even years? The great majority of podcasts tend to just sort of fade out, with no announcement that they just got bored of it. Why? Because of burn out. I think starting a podcast might be biting off more than you can chew, so to speak with little return.

Some people are well suited to this sort of thing. After all, there are radio DJs who keep it up for years. But such individuals are uncommon.

Also, in regard to people "calling in," no one mentioned the most obvious problem: Scheduling. The users here come from all areas of the globe. Ergo, they live in different time zones. Thus, it will be likely very difficult if not impossible to schedule a time that will not ultimately leave out some people. I really can't see someone taking part in this at 3AM.

I get up betwwen midnigt of 3 A< Cemtra; To,e (Chicago USA) time and I am wide wake and bursting of energy at that time so I don't mind doing it at different times of the day because I am at home dad with 1 year olds and I, quite frankly, see this as an incentive to do to better my communications skills ( which I am speach impaired), so I do think that this is a win-win situation if it gets an oppertunity. To clearify something, I would use the information off of The Sims Wiki as a tool of reference as well as The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 websites as well. I will occassionally use Wikipedia but UGC is the best of all. But I will as the users of TSW to post quick tips (or helpful hints to better the game) on my tlak page. I can do this for years on in due to my passion for the game and trying to help others to understand the game. I do have a plan figured out for international users and here at home (the US) markets So in the logic of two recordings both are precrecorded and I will ultimately make an official episode which will be a live recording.
