[[File:BasementTutorial_05.jpg|thumb|A couple segments of foundation have been painted]]Using the lower land tool, start digging a hole near the foundation that you've painted/covered, exposing the entire length of the painted wall. Use the patterns or baseboard on the paint you've chosen to help you find the depth of the hole you're digging. TheIf the foundation is the usual height above the terrain, the approximate number of times clicked to make the ground for the basement the correct level to add a staircase is 12.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zErZlqnLnPw</ref>

;Step 6 - Level out the basement
[[File:BasementTutorial_06.jpg|thumb|right|The inside of the basement has been leveled out]]Once you are able to get a tile of land inside the basement to the correct level, use the level land tool to lower the rest of the land inside the hollowed-out foundation to the same level. Afterwards, look around the outside of the foundation perimeter to make sure you didn't create any holes. You can test to make sure that the basement is at the right height by using the wall tool. If the ground inside the basement is set to the correct level, you will be able to draw a wall up to the edge of the foundation wall. If the level inside is incorrect, the game will not allow you to connect a wall to the edge of the foundation.
