Still necessary?

Since the game added a "Basement Feature" bypassing all these steps. This tutorial is basically obsolete.

Do we really still need it on this wiki?

Yes. One reason is that there are still quite a few people who play The Sims 2. Additionally, Basement notes that the basement tool is not included in console versions of The Sims 3, but that basements can be built as in The Sims 2, so this tutorial is relevant to console players. Also, it is conceivable that someone who wants to put a basement under a foundation in The Sims 3 may want to add it manually instead of with the basement tool.

Remember, this wiki is not just here for its contributors, but for the larger community of players, many of whom will only come across it when searching for information. Dharden (talk) 16:41, May 13, 2013 (UTC)

Number of times the terrain needs to be lowered

Usually the terrain is lowered to the correct level for a basement, by clicking to lower the terrain, 12 times. I've found information on the correct amount of clicks to set the floor of the basement to the correct level to add a staircase, in this tutorial. -- C.Syde (talk | contribs) 07:44, March 14, 2015 (UTC)

That's correct, assuming that the foundation was placed on level terrain and is at the default height. My experience has shown me that each floor/story of height (i.e. the height of a wall segment) is equal to "16 clicks" when adjusting terrain up or down. In other words, raising or lowering terrain by one "click" is equal to raising/lowering it 1/16th of a story. A foundation placed on level terrain defaults to 4 "clicks" tall, or 1/4 of a story. So, when digging out the basement within the foundation, you would take 16 minus the height of the foundation to determine how deep to dig. -- LostInRiverview ^{talk • blog • contribs} 14:21, March 14, 2015 (UTC)
