The Magical Faire Gate from The Sims 3 Store

A gate is an architectural object in The Sims 2 and The Sims 3.

Gates were introduced in The Sims 2 base game, so as to give Sims a way to pass through fences without requiring the player to leave a gap in the fence. Gates function the same as doors, except that they must be placed in fences.

The Sims 2: Open for Business introduced the ability to lock gates.[1] Gate locking was introduced into The Sims 3 with The Sims 3: World Adventures.

In The Sims 2: Pets and The Sims 3: Pets, individual gates can be set so that pets either can or cannot use them.

Notes

  1. Custom gates made before Open for Business or that were made to be base-game compatible will not be lockable. However, this can be fixed with SimPE; see here for instructions. This change will update a gate to use the same semi-global menu as doors, which is what Open for Business did with Maxis gates. These gates will be lockable, but will not be compatible with games that do not have Open for Business or a later EP or SP.
