Ogg & Midi

Ogg Vorbis and midi are the only audio formats enabled by default on Wikia. These files function similarly to image files in that they show up in the same categories. To embed an audio file on an article simply add it as you would with an image: [[File:Audio file.ogg]].

For placing audio files inline, the OggHandler extension allows a |noicon parameter which removes the info button and only shows the play button.

An inline audio file looks like this:

You can find many ogg converters on the net to convert excisting audio tracks into eg. Ogg Vorbis. The Sims Wiki recommends Audacity but cannot offer any support for this program. To find another converter, visit Google

MP3

Wikia does in some cases allow support for MP3 files, but restrictions apply. See the shared help page on audio files.

Fair Use

Please remember that uploaded audio files, must be legal. Fair Use may apply, but the files are subject to restrictions, such as:

  • Limited duration (30 secs MAX)
  • Inferior quality
  • No free alternative is available

See File:3oh3 Double Vision rw.ogg as an example for what information to add to an audio file.

Playback problems

If you have trouble playing audio files, try selecting a different player than the default. If you have no player installed, see Wikipedia:Media help on how to install a number of audio players.
