== The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories ==
The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories have Job Performance (School Performance for Children and Teens) and shows the bar in the career tab. Performance affects Jobs. For example, low performance may result in demotions or even being fired while high performance will result in promotions.

However, being ''fired'' in The Sims 2 and The Sims 2 Pets Console games is based on days missed. It does not have a performance bar like the Windows versions of The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories.

===Factors that affect performance===
===Factors that affect performance===
There are different factors that affect the performance meter. The always-present meter, for example, is heavily affected by a Sim's mood and [[moodlet]]s. Other performance meters are affected by what they do and what they should do but didn't, like homework.

===The Bar===
Like The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, there is also a performance bar. As in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories, Sims will get promoted if the bar is filled (Green) or get demoted or even fired when low (Red). Although The Sims 3 Manual mentions this, it is not mentioned in the game when the mouse is on the performance bar like The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories did.
