In The Sims 2: Seasons and The Sims 3, a Sim can store leftovers by putting them into the refrigerator.

The Sims 2

Leftovers can be put into the refrigerator, and retrieved at any time. However, food can also be put in a Sim's personal inventory, and be stored forever.

The Sims 3

Leftovers will go bad after time. Also, eating leftovers from a cheap fridge might give a negative moodlet.
