Not to be confused with Custom content.

Mod is short for game modification. It is different from custom content since it is not an in-game object such as clothing or a new decorative object (though some mods use an in-game item to en- or disable modded features). Mods mainly alter gameplay values or add/change already excisting features.

An example of a small mod would be removing the censoring mosaic on nude Sims or making homework complete faster. An exmaple of a big mod would be Awesomemod.

The inclusion of more menu items available when using Testingcheatsenabled in the more recent Sims games, has made many old mods obsolete.
