Due to the same family name as Mortimer's maternal relatives, it has been proposed that Mrs. Crumplebottom is a relative of Mortimer. It is sometimes said that she is a distant cousin, though many belive she is [[Prudence Crumplebottom]] because of her similar appearance and the fact that Prudence's grave cannot be found in the Goth Family Graveyard.
