The fact is that Agnes Crumplebottom and Mrs. Crumplebottom are two completely seperate characters from the Crumplebottom Family. In The Sims Hot Date, Mrs. Crumplebottoms' full name is Mrs. Agatha Crumplebottom, which rules out Agnes Crumplebottom all together. Also, Agnes Crumplebottom is deceased in The Sims 2 opening, as Mrs. Crumplebottom reappears in The Sims 2 Nightlife. In The Sims 3, Agnes Crumplebottom hadn't even changed her last name to her husband's when an unfortunate accident on her honeymoon ended the marriage. Hence, this so called implication, of Agnes and Mrs. Crumplebottom being the same person, becomes faulty.
To prove this fact, please refer to the Nightlife transcripts. If you read the transcript carefully, the question is asked "How is Mrs. Crumplebottom going to work?" She's Mortimer's Aunt and he's nearly dead himself when the game starts." The author of this question is referring to Agnes Crumplebottom. MaxisTim answered: "This is actually a distant relative of the original Mrs. Crumplebottom. the family has strong genes...". Agnes Crumplebottom is the aunt of Mortimer Goth. There is no indication that the original Mrs. (Agatha) Crumplebottom is any relation to Mortimer Goth (refer to the family tree). Lyndsey from Maxis states "This is actually a distant relative of "the original" Mrs. Crumplebottom." meaning that Agnes Crumplebottom is a distant relation of the original Mrs. (Agatha) Crumplebottom.
