The Murphy bed is a type of bed introduced in the Sims 2: Apartment life expansion pack. The bed folds into wall as to save space in the small apartments that are added with the game, however, when closed, the tiles in use while open, are still considered occupied, and you cannot place objects on it without using the move objects cheat, and when the cheat is used to place an item in that space, it will probably show through the bed unless the item is small enough to go un noticed. This bed is also called the “hide-away bed”, probably for the reason that it easily disappears into the wall.

Death by the Bed

Strangely, it is possible to be killed by the Murphy “hide-away” bed. This is when the bed falls on your sim while they are opening/closing this bed, resulting in getting crushed to death.
This death type will not happen randomly, and you do not have to fear this bed. There is a 5 percent chance that this bed will kill your sim. It will only happen if their mood had dropped to less then 70, as well as have less then 5 points in the body skill at the same time.
If your sim is unfortunate enough to attempt to open/close the Murphy bed after acquiring the said status, and if that sim is also unlucky enough to be in then 5 percent, then the bed will crash down upon your poor sim, crushing them in the process. Ghosts of this death type will appear white, and will tend to avoid any Murphy beds while haunting the lot.

Needs

The Murphy bed will increse both the comfort and the energy need of the sim while in use.

Games

So far, the Murphy “hide-away” bed only appears in The Sims 2 franchise, and has yet to arrive in The Sims 3 , however, through an installable computer program, players will be able to create a mesh of a Murphy bed for sims 3.
