Gavin: Medieval form of the name Gawain, meaning "white hawk".

- The household is a reference to the Fox television series New Girl starring Zooey Deschanel. Zoe Patel is a nod to Zooey, as well as her character, Jess.
- All four members of the Roomies household appear on the back cover art of the base game, making them the only moved-in characters to appear on the game's cover. The group is pictured at a bar with a fifth friend, a blonde haired female Sim who appeared in several renders/trailers, and who is shown apparently rejecting Gavin's advances while the other three roomies laugh.
