An outing is a mini-game scenario involving many Sims. The members of the group will follow the playable Sims wherever they go. They will also do group activities, such as dining out and bowling, together. Members of the outing other than the selected Sim will have small blue PlumbBobs above their head, but this does not indicate their mood. Pleasure Sims will usually want to have an outing.

Outing is the generic term for the group. There are two kinds of outings. There are outings just for fun, which are untimed and unscored, and outings which are timed and scored, similar to dating. Sims cannot have a date and an outing at the same time.

Managing a Group
A group can be managed by using a phone or cell phone. By managing a group, Sims can easily form an outing with a preset outing members, either playable or non-playable. Sims can add orSims removethey know to the membersgroup, withor Simsremove whommembers theyfrom knowit. A managed group can be named, but no groups can share the same name, even if the groups contain different outing members.

After a group is managed, any of the membermembers can edit the group, add or remove the members, and delete the group. Sims can invite outmembers or meetof the outinggroup membersto ona community lot, byor phonemeet them on one, for a casual group or a timed outing. TheirWhether attendancethey accept depends on how well they know the caller,; whether they are asleep, or at work,; and whether they have a phone. ComingBeing late to an outing on community lot will stand up the others and make them furious at thethat Sim.

Even though an outing with a managed group has a preset members of outing, it doesn'tis mean the members arenot limited to thatmembers groupof onlythe group. Sims can still ask others in person to join the outing., Theyif justthe haveplayer toso dochooses, but it manuallyhas to be done in person. Occasionally, any members of the group will call other Sims to go for an outing with that particular group.

Forming a Group in Person
In addition to managing a group, Sims can also askform othercasual Simsgroups inif personthe byplayer usinguses the Ask... To Form Casual Group option. SimsThe player can then choose whether the casual group will be "Just for Fun" (untimed outing) or "For an Outing". After any of the outinggroup is formed, Sims can invite more Sims toon the outing by asking them to join the group.

The group can be disbanded if the playable Sims end it themselves, or askwhen all members have eachbeen memberasked to leave the group. The group member will autonomously leave if their mood or need is low. There are some benefits of forming a group. TheyThe group will dine out together, and won't scatter around when invited into a community lot. On a residential lot, andgroup members won't go home after midnight if the outing occurs at home.

A timed outing is a scored outing, and works much similarlike toa datingdate. An outing meter will showappear up onin the upper right corner of the screen, and it displays the remaininghow much time ofis left in the outing. An outing score ranges withinhas seven tierslevels:
#Rockin'
#Super
Line 28:
#Disaster

Raising the outing meter takes a little hardermore effort than dating.raising Asa date meter, as the score accumulatesdepends byon the average funamount activitiesof allFun gained by the members. gainTherefore, raising it might be easier if there are few members of the outing. The outing meterscore will also get a score boost if outing members gainbecome friends andor best friends relationship. ShortlyIn short, scoring for outings workis similarlysimilar to scoring for parties.

OutingsTimed willoutings have an initial time of 3 Sim hours. TimeThis expandstime increases every time the player reaches the higher thresholdlevels ofon the outing meter. Sims will get an additional time of 2:30 for reaching the "Fun" Outinglevel, another 2:00 for Superreaching Outing"Super", and another 1:30 for "Rockin' Outing", andbut nothing more thereafter. Sims will not get a time penalty if theirthe outing score drops to a lower threshold, norbut they will theynot get moreanother time extension for reachingraising theit sameback tierto ifa level they have reachedalready itreached once.

Invitation
SimilarOnce toNightlife is installed, and a WelcomeDowntown is associated with the neighborhood, there will always be an invitation for a casual group the first night a family is played after Nightlife is installed. The caller might be a random Downtownie or someone that Sim knows. There won't be any invitation if Downtown isn't installed to the neighborhood.

Other than the first night invitation, there are other kinds of invitation as well. A member of the managed group might ask for an outing, an invitation as a reward of a good outing, or an invitation from a contact. All the latter three invitations are scored outings, while the former one is always a casual group.
