Gladsten bears a resemblance to True Blood character, Alcide Herveaux, who is in fact a werewolf. Gladsten has a pre-existing relationship with Marigold, as does Alcide with Sookie. Gladsten's womanizing personality is more similar to True Blood character, Jason Stackhouse, who is Sookie's brother. His military career echoes that of True Blood character, Sam Merlotte, though this is more so in the novel. Gladsten being with Helen Hall, may also be a reference to Sam, as Sam was also with Sookie's best friend, Tara, and is also an ex-boyfriend of sorts to Sookie.
