* Justine was inspired by the character Esther Machalo from Allan Stratton's novel, ''Chanda's Secrets''. In the novel, which focuses on the AIDS epidemic in Africa, Esther is the best friend of the main character, Chanda. Throughout the novel, Esther is shown to be very impoverished and have a reputation for being promiscuous and dressing in skimpy clothes.
** Despite this, [[sims:Fanon:Kirsten_Straight|Kirsten]], Justine's bff, is not made to be a counterpart of Chanda or any other character from the novel. Rather she's a completely original "character" on this save file.
* Only Justine's mother appears in her family tree. Despite this, she is not an adoptive daughter.
