FAQs
Why can't I send any messages?
To help protect against spam and server raids, everyone must have at least 1) a verified email address linked to their Discord account; and 2) be registered on Discord for at least five (5) minutes. In addition, make sure you're not trying to send messages to a channel you don't have the "Send Messages" permission for. On our server, you can send messages to almost any channel you can view. Try switching over to the #general_chat channel and see if you can send any messages there.

If you still cannot send any messages and you have followed all of the steps above, it is possible that a moderator or a bot has muted you, either temporarily or indefinitely. You may want to message a moderator for assistance.

Why can't I attach any images/files?
Initially, only users with the "Trusted User" role could upload and attach images and files. As of February 1, 2019, this restriction has been lifted. If you are still unable to attach images and files, make sure that you are not trying to upload files that are too big; Discord limits file sizes to 8 MB for free users, and 50 MB for Discord Nitro subscribers.

Why can't I talk in any voice channels?
Initially, only users with the "Trusted User" role could speak in voice channels, although everyone could join and listen. As of June 15, 2019, this restriction has been lifted. If you are unable to talk in any voice channels, please see this article for assistance.

What is this "Trusted User" role?
It's a simple measure of controlling spam and server raids. It grants a few extra permissions, like being able to use emojis from other servers. It is not a "privilege" position and it doesn't grant you any authority over other users. Users given this role have just been deemed by a moderator or operator to not be an obvious spammer or troll.

How do I get the "Trusted User" role?
Currently only server operators and moderators can grant this role. If you've been chatting on the server for some time, you may be granted the role. It should not actually take too much to get this role. If you feel that you have been chatting for some time and that a moderator may have missed you, simply type
!request-trusted
in the #role-request channel, and a moderator will review your request.

What is this "Confirmed Wiki User" role?
The confirmed wiki user role is our method of identifying who has an account on The Sims Wiki and has confirmed a link between that and their Discord account. This role does nothing on its own, and if you do not have an account on The Sims Wiki, you do not need to worry about it. If you do have an on-wiki account, see The Sims Wiki:Discord confirmation for how to get confirmed.

I'm an on-wiki administrator. How do I get the Wiki Administrator role?
Administrators and bureaucrats on The Sims Wiki need to attain the confirmed wiki user role before they can get the wiki administrator role. See The Sims Wiki:Discord confirmation for instructions on how to get confirmed.

I'm an on-wiki content moderator. How do I get the Content Moderator role?
See the question and answer above.

What is the Nitro Boosters role?
The Nitro Boosters role is automatically given to users who boost our server (see this help article about boosting servers). It doesn't grant any additional permissions, but as a thank you, boosters will be given a special role color and be displayed separately from other users in the user list. Boosting helps the server unlock special features that everyone can enjoy and is a great way to show your support! If you have Discord Nitro, please boost the server!

How do I quickly contact server moderators and operators?
The quickest way to do this is to mention @server moderators, which will notify all online server moderators. Please use this only for emergencies.

What are the bots on the server? What can I do with them?
The Sims Wiki, as of October 5, 2019, has 16 approved bots on the server. Most of them have public commands that anyone who is able to speak on the server are able to use. The bots are:
* blargbot: Type
b!help
for a list of commands you can use
* Tatsumaki: Type
t!help
for a list of commands you can use
* NotSoBot: Type
.help
to get a link to the list of commands you can use
* PvPCraft: Type
p!help
to get a link to the bot's documentation page
* Dyno: Type
?help
to get a DM with a link to the bot's documentation page
* MEE6: Type
!help
to get a list of commands you can use
* Miki: Type
>help
to get a DM with a list of commands you can use
*GamesROB: Discord gaming bot. Only available in the #spammerland channel. Type
g*help
for a list of commands you can use.
* Trivia: Discord trivia bot! Only available in the #spammerland channel. Type
trivia help
for a list of commands you can use.

There are more bots on the server not listed here that perform a number of other behind-the-scenes tasks.

Please note that these bots are not maintained or owned by The Sims Wiki.

What is the spammerland channel?
The #spammerland channel is where the rules of the server are significantly laxer; users are free to use bot commands or goof off in the channel. They are still expected to abide by the rules surrounding civility and NSFW content.

What is the IRC Relay channel?
The #irc-relay channel is connected to the wiki's two IRC channels via a bot. Messages you send to that channel will be relayed to our freenode IRC channel, where another bot will relay them further to our ChatLounge IRC channel. Messages sent from IRC will also be relayed back to Discord. This effectively allows users of IRC and Discord to be able to communicate with each other.

Please note that NotSoBot and PvPCraft cannot be used in this channel, despite appearing as present. If you edit or delete a message, those changes won't be relayed to IRC. If you upload a file to Discord, the URL of that file will be relayed to IRC. Only bold, italics, and underline formatting are relayed; the rest will be sent as plain text. Discord bot messages will only be relayed if they are sent as messages and not as embeds.

I need help with Discord!
If you need help with using Discord in general, you can click the little question mark icon on the top-right corner of the app, or go here to visit the Help Center. If you need help with using our server and your question hasn't been answered on this page, feel free to ask your question in the #help channel.
