He is aan adult [[List of pet breeds|Redbone Coonhound]] and does not wear a collar. Jake and his owner Otis are homeless and live on the streets. Jake first appears in the [[Best in Show]] story accompanying Otis, when he first pays a visit to [[Alice Whitt]] to teach her "The Way of the Paw". Otis also reveals to Alice that he and Jake were the reigning SimCity Dog Show champions four years ago, until [[Diana DeBore]] and her dog [[Precious DeBore|Precious]] were able to beat them. Jake seems to be getting along with Alice's dog [[Sam Whitt]] during the story.
