:I'm not an expert of in-game genetics (or real-life genetics), but the way I understand it is that if a Sim only has one parent in their family tree, they technically are clones of their one parent - there was no second Sim to provide genetics, so the game took it all from the one parent. As for Sims with both parents, it's definitely expected for a child to look at least somewhat like their parents, and I have seen examples of where child Sims are extremely similar to one of their parents, but I wouldn't go so far as to say they looked like a clone. :Thats why i went and test it out using 4 different families (all pre-made), and 2 of the families have their son grow up (using the cake) to be exactly like their father, with the only difference being the clothes,hair style(hair color as well) and muscles. However the rest of the kids are more like what you mentioned, with some resemblence to both parents. Seems to be pretty random i guess.
