Why are genies considered life states? They are uncontrollable, and more like objects than sims. 99.0.40.175 13:06, October 27, 2009 (UTC)

Agree. You can not control a genie, so it's an object, not a race of sims/life state. --83.89.29.21 10:56, October 28, 2009 (UTC)

Backfires

I don't really think all wishes in FreeTime Genie have backfires. I'm always successful at wishing for money. My stuff never got broken when wishing for Peace of Mind. The beauty wish is always both successful and failed. Everyone loves my Sim and they always ring the bell. The Cheat Death wish? Eventually, Sims will lose anyway, right? The resurrection is undoubtedly right. I never used the long life wish, so I never know if it has a backfire. Nikel Talk 08:37, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

They are, I remember my sim died when wishing for money and mrs crumplebottom hitting my sim after wish for a love... Wiryawan310 08:40, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
Wir, the wishes you mentioned were from Wishing Well... :/ Nikel Talk 08:47, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
Ah, yes! from the wishing well! I forget about that... lol about genie, Zombie, that is the backfire i got from genie and the other one is my sim just die and doesnt plead for his own life after a money fall on his head even he already wish to cheat death. Wiryawan310 08:53, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
He didn't plead? o_o Perhaps the ability will wear off eventually? I was going to browse MATY if they have any further research about genie... right after my brother comes home and gives back the mouse. It's so hard to browse without the mouse! What I really want to know is, does Beauty wish always come with both success and failure? Nikel Talk 09:03, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
I think the FreeTime genie is more competent than the one in Livin' Large, so that, instead of wishes usually going wrong, they usually work. I changed the money wish to say "over time" because I don't know if there is a definite schedule. To me, it does seem that the money falls when the Sim is idling. For cheating death, it may be that the player will not know if the wish succeeded until the Sim is in a position to plead for his or her own life. Dharden (talk) 13:28, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

Actually, the money bag will suddenly appear in the action queue, even though the Sim is in the middle of doing something. However, I never dare to cancel the queue. :/ How about the other wishes? Has anyone encountered the backfires? Nikel Talk 13:58, January 11, 2012 (UTC)

OK, I think we can just leave that as "over time". I haven't encountered the backfires yet, but "yet" is probably the key word there. Dharden (talk) 14:04, January 11, 2012 (UTC)
On reflection, I think backfires are a game-balance issue. In Livin' Large, Sims can get an effectively unlimited number of wishes (at one per day) for only §375, and can have as many lamps as they can afford. So, the general ineptness of the Genie balances that out. They can have an effectively unlimited number of wishes, if the player is willing to risk having the great bulk of them go wrong. In FreeTime, since the Genie only allows three wishes and the lamp is a reward that is rarely received, the Genie can be much more competent, and wishes can usually work, without affecting game balance too much. Dharden (talk) 16:04, January 13, 2012 (UTC)
That makes sense, because getting genie lamp is very rare... and getting backfires must be really upsetting (Though I prefer to keep the lamp if I had one). I think we just need to wish the genie over and over... until we experience something unprecedented. Nikel Talk 16:42, January 13, 2012 (UTC)

Showtime Genie

Should we prevent the creation of ST Genie section until the actual game is released or people just feel it should exist somewhere in this page? Nikel Talk 15:44, January 29, 2012 (UTC)
