Returning family?

Why is Knack family considered to be a returning family just because of Nicki Knack? There's no other proof stating so. There are many other families whose surname are the same as families in preceding games, e.g. Basil Flores with Amaya Flores, Hector Mendoza with Lisa Ramirez's nee, Enola Green with Gabriel Green, and many Smith surnames.
