On May 18, 2011, EA released an update for The Sims 3 for console which fixed a bug that rendered save games useless without warning.[1] The patch restores playability to the corrupted save games but any save game made on the patched version will be incompatible with an unpatched version of the game.

It also addressed an issue that caused the game to fail to generate Sims on public lots after a period of time had elapsed in the game. Other smaller bugs were addressed, such routing issues for Sims getting stuck on uneven terrain.

Patches for both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 are numbered with three integers but in a different fashion to patches for The Sims 3 on PC. Version 1.00 is the shipped release while the second and third numbers are the patch version. These integers are native to the console and are not pre-determined by EA.

Installation[edit | edit source]

  • Step 1: Connect your PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 to the internet and sign into PlayStation Network/Xbox Live.
  • Step 2: Insert the disc and load up The Sims 3.
  • Step 3: The game will prompt you to download the update. The file size is 21MB but the download rate will depend on your broadband speed. Cancelling the update before it has completed may cause unexpected problems, so it is always best to let it finish entirely.
A screen like this should appear (PS3 version).
  • Step 4: Once the download is complete, the patch will be installed to the appropriate console. It is placed under "DLC and Updates" under the "Game Data Utility" on PS3 while it is integrated with the game data section for The Sims 3 on the Xbox 360 hard drive.
