Parthenon or userbox is not obligatory. They can showcase it as a somewhat "pride" or recognition. And only the winner can use it. Maybe it sounded a little arrogant, though. And I shouldn't have put the codes in this wiki... they might steal it if they know how. Getting started

Alright, I've decided to be bold and I've created this page (finally). The whole discussion about the awards themselves ground to a halt amidst discussions of what the awards would be called, so I decided to, again, act boldly and determine a good compromise name from among those given. In that process, I took some suggestions for multiple awards (like winners and runners-up), and created three 'tiers' of awards for any particular category; 1st place gets Platinum, 2nd gets Gold, and 3rd gets Emerald.

The categories haven't been determined yet, which is why nominations for awards can't be taken yet. Long long ago, BobNewbie created a list of possible award categories, which were:

  • Best Horror Fanon
  • Best Comedy Fanon
  • Best Romance Fanon
  • Best Action Fanon
  • Best Drama Fanon
  • Best Fanon Sim
  • Best Fanon Family
  • Best Fanon Setting
  • Best Fanon Chapter/Episode
  • Best Evolving Fanon Story
  • Most Comedic Writer
  • Most Creative Writer
  • Most Creative Photographer

Now, we've got to decide which categories we want to keep, which ones we don't, and whether new categories should be created.

This is all a big undertaking, so getting multiple people on-board with putting this on would be great! -- LostInRiverview talk · blog 07:50, May 7, 2012 (UTC)

First, props to you for someone actually doing this thing. And as for the categories, I think we could really narrow it down, into just best Fanon Sim, best Fanon family, and best Fanon article, as well as best Author. I also just got the idea of maybe honourable mentions, which are fanons that were considered but did not make the top 3. Also, I'm doing a bit of photoshopping atm trying to make award images. ђ talk 07:57, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
I think the list above is a bit too long, but what you've given is IMO too narrowed-down. I think maybe what we could do would be:
  • Best Comedy
  • Best Drama
  • Best Article/Best Chapter
  • Best Sim
  • Best Family
  • Best Author
As for honorable mentions... I was thinking that each category would be open to nominations and that the judges would ultimately pick the top 3. So by extension everything that was nominated for the category that wasn't selected would be an 'honorable mention'. I hadn't thought of doing anything to specifically recognize those, but it seems like a good idea, maybe if the judges said something like 'we really liked these three (whatever), but this one here was good as well.' -- LostInRiverview talk · blog 08:01, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
I went ahead and made some mock up templates to be used for the awards. ђ talk 08:20, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
I have collections of icons from Ambitions to Showtime, maybe we could use it instead, Wogan. I'm wondering what kind of the award will be. Is it a parthenon or a special userbox, or something else? Nikel Talk 08:24, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
Likely going to be a parthenon template for the fanon page, although it might be nice to give a special userbox to the recipients of awards. ђ talk 08:26, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
If the images you'll use for the awards are like those, I'll pass. I have a few ideas about userbox awards... I'll try to design one later and see what'll be like. Nikel Talk 08:30, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
I cannot believe I won the award! Roll the red carpet!
It turns out making a colorful userbox is not as easy as painting your MS Word. I ended up with this userbox, which the codes I stole "borrowed" from GG's old signature and some tweaks. :p Nikel Talk 14:06, May 7, 2012 (UTC)
I like it. Might be a bit of a contrast to other userboxes though, but then again users don't need to have the thing on their page (I got rid of my Featured Editor template for similar reasons). ђ talk 04:29, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
In the interests of making sure that this page can accommodate multiple conversations, I'm going to split the present topic into a new section (see immediately below). - LiR speak ~ read 05:06, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

Awards Design

Parthenon or userbox is not obligatory. They can showcase it as a somewhat "pride" or recognition if they want. And only the winner can use it. Maybe it sounded a little arrogant, though. And I shouldn't have put the codes in this wiki... they might steal it if they know how. Nikel Talk 08:13, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

How will judging work?

I'm curious how we're going to have the judges discuss and vote on their favorites, and how we'll keep that private from the general public. One idea is to do it on the IRC but at least one potential judge has expressed concerns with having it take place on the IRC. Can anyone think of some way to hold a private vote/discussion without utilizing IRC? -- LiR speak ~ read 05:06, May 8, 2012 (UTC)

We could enable chat for the purposes of judging, or use Special:EmailUser. Other than that, I've got nothing. ђ talk 05:08, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
The problem with chat is that it can't be locked to allow only certain users. If a special IRC channel were set up for judging, then the judges could be let in and the channel could be locked to everyone else. Chat can't do that. -- LiR speak ~ read 05:11, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
Temporarily ban everyone who tries to enter, perhaps? ђ talk 05:25, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
We could discuss it in a test wiki, like GG or Wogan's. If direct chat is a must, you can enable it temporarily in your test wiki. I'm not sure if your test wiki is known by public. Nikel Talk 08:07, May 8, 2012 (UTC)
