Differences in game timelines

For the purposes of in-game canon, events and Sims in The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3 and additional games associated with these titles, or released within the same "era" as these titles, are considered to be part of the same timeline. Events and Sims in The Sims 4 are deemed to be in a separate timeline, due to official confirmation from Maxis specifying this. The Sims Wiki will not show prejudice towards or against any one timeline over the other, but will instead treat both timelines as equally valid and correct.

Differences between the timelines should be mentioned in an article only when it is pertinent to the subject of the article. Where possible, pages about Sims or families should not be split between timelines but should remain intact. If a page split is necessary or practical, then there should be no preference given to the page corresponding to one timeline above the page corresponding to the other.
