User blog:Lost Labyrinth/Okay, so if you've been flooded with messages from my bot...

...it's because it can now tag unused files and notify the users who have uploaded the files.

Seeing as our unused files backlog went neglected for so long, the bot is tagging ~1000 files at the same time. As it only reads files one-by-one and wasn't designed to accommodate users who have several unused files under their belt, there's bound to be some teething issues with this new feature meaning some users will get tons of messages telling them that their files are unused. It's just that they won't be notified unless they actually look at their talk page as the bot marked all of those edits as minor (I need to fix that).

If you've been notified about an unused file that's been on an article for quite some time, blame Wikia. The script just tags whatever it finds on the unused files listing and automatically messages the author and files are read one-by-one. Wikia's had tons of caching issues lately and this is probably another one to add to the collection.

If you're wondering why I'm making a blog on this, it's because I don't want to read tons and tons of messages berating me for something that's out of my control. Hopefully once we've sorted out this current batch, future unused file patrols will be much smoother.

If you have any further questions then please ask via the comments or my talk page.

P.S. If you do have any legitimately unused files and you do add them to articles, remove Category:Unused files from the file page so it doesn't get deleted. There's too many files for one person to do this one-by-one so we'll have to work together. With Wikia's caching being broken again, it's only going to make things worse.
