It's true that most elder ancestral Sims still have days left in their lifespan when they died, but a lot of them died from old age, so it hints that they had access to elixir of life at some point during their lives, because they shouldn't have that many days left in their lifespan.
Also it says in the articles that they may have had access to elixir of life at some point during their lives.
