This helps reduce redundancy and saves administrators the work of having to delete the old file. If you upload a new version of the file this way, all usages of the file will automatically update, saving you the hassle of having to go to every page the file is being used and updating the links. Also, when uploading a new version of the file, the old versions are not lost and are instead archived in the file history, and can be viewed and restored at any time in the event of an error.
