Your Fanon creations[edit source]
Thank you for making contributions to The Sims Wiki's Fanon Namespace. I am sure your fanon will make a great addition to the wiki's fanon collection. That being said, there are a few issues regarding your creations that you should be aware of. These are mainly issues in the creation of the pages and uploading of the files, but fortunately they are easily fixed.
When you create a fanon page, you have been using the correct biography templates ({{Family3}}, {{Sim3}}) but there have been errors in the coding of the template that are causing issues. When you include a list of Sims in a family, as you did on Fanon:Habsburgh Family, you should be sure to include a space between each word and between a comma and the word that follows it. If you make a line of text too long without a space, it forces the template to place the whole line of text together, and that forces the template to widen and breaks the rest of the display. On Fanon:Wilhelm I Habsburgh, you included a list of relatives, using the {{Relative}} templates, but you forgot a brace ( {
), causing problems with the rest of the {{Sim3}} template. Fortunately, both of these problems have a common solution - simply double-check your coding using the Preview button before publishing. If something appears wrong, there's probably an issue somewhere on the page that needs to be fixed.
Another subject is the images you have been uploading. The image itself only needs to have the file format listed once (i.e. File:WilhelmIHabsburgh.jpg
is correct, File:WilhelmIHabsburgh.jpg.jpg
is not). You also need to remember to include copyright and licensing information, through the use of the drop-down menu on the upload page - if you added the image directly to the page as you were writing it, you should be sure to go to the file page afterwards (for example, File:HabsburghFamily.jpg) and assign the proper license. When you add an image onto a bio template, only one set of brackets ([[ ]]
) is needed to display it properly; having two sets creates an empty set, which is then displayed on the template and causes problems. Finally, images shouldn't be added to bio templates as thumbnails; add images as full-sized, then set the size to 250px. Setting the image as a thumbnail leaves the border around the image, which causes display problems with the template.
I know this was a lot of information to sort through. However, I am sure you will be able to make good use of this in your future creations. If you should have any questions about what I've written, questions about fanon creation or the wiki, or issues with pages you've created, do not hesitate to contact me or another administrator for help.
